Meet Your Fellow Executive

Phil Bussey

Phil is president & CEO of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, a regional business association that represents nearly 2,400 small, medium and large companies located throughout the Puget Sound area.

Phil joined the chamber in May 2009, bringing nearly 29 years of leadership experience in government affairs, community relations and communications for corporations and business associations. He is responsible for all chamber operations, including local, regional and statewide government relations, community relations, member services and programs. Phil’s involvement with the chamber stretches back nearly 20 years and he most recently served as a member of the chamber’s executive committee as well as the board of trustees.

Prior to the chamber, Phil was senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for Puget Sound Energy, Washington State’s largest and oldest energy utility. In this role, he oversaw the company’s major business accounts, community relations, state government relations, corporate real estate and facilities. He also acted as chairman and president of the Puget Sound Energy Foundation.

Phil joined Puget Sound Energy in 2003 after seven years as president of the Washington Roundtable, a public policy research and advocacy group composed of chief executive officers of major companies throughout Washington State. For seven years prior to that, Phil served as the Roundtable's vice president. Before joining the Roundtable, Phil held communications and public affairs management positions for Rockwell International, Westinghouse Electric Corporation and the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA).

Phil is involved with many business and community organizations. He currently serves on the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business executive education advisory council. In addition, he serves on the boards of Group Health Foundation, Leadership Tomorrow, Trade Development Alliance, the Seattle Alliance for Education and the National Public Affairs Council.

Phil is a graduate of Brigham Young University. He and his wife Cathy reside in Issaquah, Washington and have three children.
