The comfortable rural life style and small-town charm of the area is a unique combination of elegant residential areas and an active river front industry. It is an area where international corporations and small businesses exist side by side.

Although historically the area has benefited from a timber-based economy, forward-thinking city governments have paved the way for new manufacturing businesses to locate here, resulting in a growing economy and stable tax base. The area is attractive for all ages of people. Here you will find an emphasis on education, families, business development, natural resources and quality of life. Residents pride in the beauty of the areas parks, trees, rivers and surrounding forests is reflected in active community programs and service groups.

Leavenworth is one of the most unique communities in the Pacfic Northwest. In the 1960s, the entire community rallied to create the illusion of Bavaria in the middle of Washington state. Besides the complete renovation of the downtown area, community members worked to begin a series of festivals. The Autumn Leaf Festival, Maifest and the extremely popular Christmas Lighting Ceremony were the first of many attractions Leavenworth offered to passers-by.

It worked. Since the change to a Bavarian motif, Leavenworth has become a pillar of the tourism industry in the Pacific Northwest. Today, more than a million tourists come to Leavenworth each year, each visitor finding their own individual love affair with the community.

The lake, Moses Lake, on which the town lies is made up of three main arms which are over 18 miles long and up to one mile wide. It is the largest, natural body of fresh water in Grant County. Moses Lake has over 120 miles of shoreline and covers 6,500 acres.

The history of our community began in 1910. It was then the hamlet of Neppel was founded to serve the needs of a small group of pioneering farmers who settled on the shores of the lake. From its small beginning, Moses Lake has grown and prospered to what it is today, the commercial hub of the Columbia Basin in Grant County, located on north/south State Highway 17 and east/west on Federal Interstate 90. This rural environment provides friendliness and security, yet the urban resources of Seattle or Spokane are within easy driving distance. This is a pleasant living area with a great variety of scenery and recreational opportunities in an area of moderate climate.
