Agriculture, one of the foundations of our past, remains important in Stanwood. Seed, produce and meat production are all primary industries in north Snohomish county. Major players in agriculture include Alf Christianson Seed Company and Twin City Foods. Christianson's ranks among the nation's largest independent seed growers. Twin City Foods, the city's largest employer, is a major national wholesaler of frozen vegetables. Many small, local growers represented by Farmer Markets during the summer add to the attractiveness and economy of Stanwood. In addition to the agricultural economy, the Stanwood School District, Josephine Retirement Center, Schenk Packing, Twin City Foods and Haggen Food and Pharmacy contribute greatly to the overall employment of the area. |
