For those Chambers working on tourism, the following will be of interest to you.
At the WCCE Conference in Anacortes, Chet Ross, President of the Freeland Chamber of Commerce presented an update on the local lodging tax issue. A copy of his presentation is attached. Chet has been focused on bringing clarity to the statute. Chambers who have been applying for these funds, are coming up against a vague RCW that is causing confusion on where and how the funds should be allocated. As a result, Chambers are competing against and losing out to the questionable distribution of lodging tax funds.
Chet has retained former Attorney General Rob McKenna to enlist his services. Chet needs to hear from Chambers who have experienced problems with the lodging tax issue in order to help build the case for a RCW clarification. If you would either call or drop Chet a quick email describing the problem (today if at all possible), it would be most helpful.
As this moves along under Chet’s leadership, WCCE will work with him to share updates to assist in clarifying the lodging tax issue.
